The Boss' Son

Our hotel's restaurant normally closes at 10.30pm. But last Saturday, it closed at 12.30am...for who? The boss' son. He made a booking at the restaurant for 30 people at 1opm, when he knew well enough what time the restaurant closes.

And solely for the boss' son...
- The whole food and beverage crew who has been standing and serving for 8 hours..
- The chinese chef and kitchen helpers whose shift were supposed to end at 10pm...
- The driver who was supposed to send the staff back at 11pm...
- and one young HR Executive who was performing her MOD* that night and was supposed to knock off at 11pm...

...had to stay back...and wait for the boss son' and his friends..as they went through countless glasses of drinks and huge platter fulls of fried chili crabs...

No I am not angry for being forced to leave my office way past 12am, I'll leave the anger to the service staff, who unlike me, had to work again the next day...

...but I do wonder, what kind of privileged life and upbringing, that can make one feel so self-important? And he is not even THE boss, he is just the boss' son! (and if we're going to be picky, he's the youngest son, not the traditional-all-properties-to-be- inherited-by-him-eldest son:P)...

I do not hope that something bad will happen to him in order that he learns and mends his ways...but what I DO hope is that, someday, he will be faced with much greater power and wealth than he can ever imagine, and yet instead of being treated as a lesser being, he will find humility and be humbled by the experience...

Am I sounding too Zen-ish? Heheh...often times when I am here alone, I find that it is the best way to deal with feelings and emotions...just be a little detached from it all..so that it hurts less...

(*MOD - Manager On Duty. All executive level and above in my hotel take turn being the MOD where you stay back at the hotel from 7pm to 11pm to make sure that all operations run smoothly at night. So when there are special functions or guests like the above, the MOD has to stay back until the function ends..)
